Use BottleneckLab as a Starting Point, Not as a Substitute for Real System Evidence

BottleneckLab provides CPU and GPU balance estimates, PC hardware education, troubleshooting guidance, and upgrade research. The calculator does not scan, benchmark, diagnose, or remotely inspect your computer, and no page can guarantee the result of a hardware purchase or system change.

01

Calculator Results and Bottleneck Percentages

The BottleneckLab calculator uses the parts and context selected by the visitor, maintained hardware reference data, and reviewed performance patterns to produce a directional CPU-side, GPU-side, balanced, or uncertain estimate.

What the calculator can do
  • Compare relative CPU and GPU headroom for the selected target.
  • Adjust the estimate for resolution, target FPS, workload, and optional context.
  • Highlight likely CPU-side, GPU-side, memory, cap, or settings-related pressure.
  • Provide a percentage range, warnings, interpretation, and a first verification step.
What the calculator cannot do
  • Measure actual FPS, frame time, 1% lows, temperatures, clocks, power, RAM, or VRAM use.
  • Inspect installed drivers, BIOS settings, background applications, or active frame caps.
  • Prove that one component limits every game, scene, application, or graphics setting.
  • Guarantee that replacing a component will deliver a particular performance gain.
A percentage is not FPS loss

The displayed percentage represents a modeled difference for the selected scenario. It should not be read as a universal performance-loss figure, a measured benchmark, or a promise that an upgrade will improve FPS by the same amount.

If repeatable monitoring on the actual computer conflicts with the calculator, the real-world evidence should take priority. Read how the bottleneck calculator works, review the Editorial Methodology, and use the 53-point verification checklist before making an expensive decision.

02

Why Real Performance Can Differ

The same CPU and GPU can behave differently across games, scenes, applications, resolutions, frame-rate targets, patches, and system conditions. That variation does not convert into one dependable universal percentage.

GAMEGame engine and scene

Simulation, AI, draw calls, traversal, effects, and map complexity change the load.

FPSTarget frame rate

A 60 FPS target and a 360 FPS target create very different CPU requirements.

PIXResolution and render scale

More rendered pixels usually increase GPU work, while upscaling can shift the balance.

RTGraphics and ray tracing

Preset, lighting, shadows, textures, ray tracing, and frame generation affect rendering demand.

RAMSystem memory

Capacity, channels, speed, XMP or EXPO, and paging can affect smoothness and frame delivery.

VRAMGraphics memory

Texture quality, resolution, ray tracing, and scene complexity can create VRAM pressure.

HEATCooling and throttling

High temperatures can reduce sustained CPU or GPU clock speed.

BIOSBIOS and power limits

Motherboard settings, power plans, voltage, and boost behavior can change performance.

DRVDrivers and software versions

Operating-system, driver, game, application, and firmware updates can alter results.

APPBackground activity

Browsers, launchers, updates, recording, streaming, and security software use resources.

CAPFPS caps and synchronization

V-Sync, frame limiters, refresh rate, or an engine cap can reduce utilization without a hardware fault.

HWHardware condition

Incorrect installation, faults, unstable memory, storage issues, and weak power delivery require separate diagnosis.

Use a repeatable test

Compare the same scene with the same settings, then change only one variable. Several consistent runs are stronger evidence than one utilization snapshot.

03

Hardware Articles and Upgrade Recommendations

BottleneckLab articles, pairing guides, comparison pages, fix guides, and upgrade suggestions are written for general educational use. They are not individualized technical, financial, repair, installation, or purchasing advice.

Your target is personal

A recommendation may change with your games, applications, monitor, budget, existing platform, region, noise preference, and upgrade plans.

Keeping hardware may be the best choice

A modeled mismatch does not automatically justify replacement when the current computer already meets the user’s smoothness, quality, and workload goals.

Compatibility must be confirmed separately

A performance recommendation does not prove motherboard, BIOS, memory, power, cooler, connector, clearance, or operating-system compatibility.

Review more than one source

Check official specifications, current compatibility lists, independent testing, warranties, retailer terms, and the requirements of your exact workload.

BottleneckLab does not guarantee that a suggested CPU, GPU, motherboard, memory kit, power supply, cooler, case, or other component will suit every user or system.

04

Installation, BIOS, Overclocking, Undervolting, and Repair

Installing or changing PC hardware and firmware can cause instability, data loss, compatibility problems, physical damage, loss of warranty coverage, or an unusable system when performed incorrectly.

Before changing hardware Confirm the exact model, socket, chipset, BIOS support, memory generation, power connectors, cooler mounting, case clearance, and manufacturer instructions.
Before changing BIOS or firmware Use the correct file and official procedure for the exact motherboard or device. An interrupted or incorrect update can prevent normal startup.
Before overclocking or undervolting Understand stability, heat, power, voltage, data-integrity, and warranty implications. Settings that work on one sample may fail on another.
Before repair or disassembly Disconnect power, follow electrostatic-discharge precautions, protect important data, and seek qualified help when you are unsure.
You are responsible for system changes

BottleneckLab cannot observe the condition of your hardware or supervise an installation, repair, BIOS update, overclock, undervolt, or configuration change. Use qualified technical assistance when the risk or procedure is unclear.
